My paintings use the avenues of figure, still life and landscape to implant ordinary images with psychological meanings. I find images in mid-twentieth century American magazines and books; each image is chosen for it's ability to move from a news/advertising past into another version of the story. The figures are often engaged in an activity- sometimes work, sometimes leisure, and sometimes that distinction is unclear. Here, the paintings depart from traditional genre painting as the nature of the activity and the morality of the actor are left uncertain.
